The Caricaceae are a family of flowering plants in the order Brassicales, found primarily in tropical regions of Central and South America and Africa. The family comprises six genera and about 34-35 species. Papaya (Carica papaya Linn.) belongs to the family Caricaceae and is well known for its therapeutic and nutritional properties all over the world. Papaya leaf extract has strong medicinal properties such as antibacterial, antiviral, antitumor, hypoglycaemic, and anti-inflammatory activity.
