Costaceae is a family of pantropical monocots. It belongs to the order Zingiberales. The seven genera in Costaceae together contain about 143 known species. Costus pulverulentus C. Presl (Costaceae), a species endemic to Mexico, is used for the empirical treatment of cancer, pain, and inflammation.
