Gesneriaceae, one of 23 families in the flowering plant order Lamiales, consists of 147 genera and about 3,200 species of mostly tropical and subtropical herbaceous or slightly woody plants. Some species have been used in traditional medicine, mainly against fever, cough, colds, snakebite, pains, and infectious and inflammatory diseases.
